If we like it or not, we all leave a carbon footprint behind on this beautiful planet. Out of love for the planet, we started a journey to find new ways of manufacturing that reduces our impact on the earth. With that mind-set, UP Shoewear was born:

Chrome free leather

Leather still offers a lot of benefits when used in sneakers. It’s hightly durable, shapes to your feet over time, is naturally breathable, easy to clean and ages well with proper care.

We believe there is a lot to gain when it comes to lowering our carbon footprint in improving existing industrial processes as well. Therefor we’ve chosen for a chrome free tanning process and have used aniline leather which ages beautifully and is treatable with oils for a longer lifespan.

Recycled cotton canvas

Canvas has been around in footwear since the birth of sneakers. It’s light, durable and breathable, making it the perfect vegan alternative to leather.

The canvas we use is for 60% made from recycled cotton and 30% from virgin organic cotton to maintain the high durability properties needed in footwear.

Pebax® Rnew®

Castorplant > Castorbeans > Castor oil > Amino 11 > Polymer.

This is the journey of the material we use in our midsole. Pebax® Rnew® polymers actually absorb atmospheric CO2 during their growth cycle, this is greatly reducing the carbon footprint.

This technology also gives the best comfort, because of the ‘’low energy loss’’ what means that with every step you take you’ll feel great energy return.

Also by choosing Pebax® Rnew® materials we sustain the farmers and their families a better life. Not only a positive impact on the environment but also on the local community.

Merino wool has different benefits. It will keep your feet warm in those cold winter days and cool during hot summers. Also, you don’t have to worry because our wool has natural odour resistant properties that keep your shoes fresh even during the warmest days of the year. We feel responsibility, so for our shoes we only use wool free from mulesing.

From the start of the design phase to the end-of-life, we choose our materials purposefully with planet and function in mind.
